BEATRIZ HOYOS

Alberto D'apena Pérez

Art critic

"For years I have had the opportunity to closely follow the avatar of Beatriz Elena Hoyos as an artist. She is a Colombian proud of her land "Pereira". The plant world has been his main object of observation, the leitmotif of his aesthetic discourse. At first Beatriz returned images very close to reality, nimbadas of unexpected colors, but possible. Little by little the forms were blurred and the profiles dispersed, in a process that seemed doomed to a dead end in which he was only going to remain the color, and suddenly, with the series "Projections with plant elements" and "Projections in movement" the artist surprises us opening before us a path, a way out, without a solution of continuity and capable of testing our logic. What is a process? Something is born, develops and dies. Put another way; a path that begins to reach a goal, to achieve a purpose, a one-way phenomenon (Perhaps the river of Heraclitus).

Not anymore. The works that Beatriz has brought force us to rethink a question that seemed obvious because although it is true that we can discover in them two languages will no longer serve us the traditional logic to categorize them in time. What route has this artist followed? From intuition to knowledge? From knowledge to intuition? From analysis, or to synthesis or vice versa? What do we see... females turned into flowers that you dance like women? Automatic painting, nervous and spontaneous drawing, sometimes somewhat lost in Baroque phrases, (synthesis) that leads us to a concretion of pure forms and flat color solids (analysis). Or will it be the other way around?

It doesn't matter. The fascinating thing for us is that Beatriz Elena Hoyos invites us to float a current like a fable, flowing in two directions at once, in which reading is free; like longings, like fantasy, like dreams. It's art.
